Band’s History

Now in its third season, the Bowling Green Area Community Band and its 70 musicians have been entertaining enthusiastic listeners at a variety of sponsored events and settings.

The band’s first rehearsal session was held on February 5, 2007 at the Bowling Green High School where the band continues to meet each Monday evening at 7:15 PM. Membership in the band is open to all interested musicians.

Leading the band since its inception is retired music educator and high school principal, Nick Ezzone. Mr. Ezzone has a long history of conducting high school and community bands. For the past 18 years, he directed the North Coast Concert Band of Bellevue until his retirement in August, 2008.

Director Ezzone is a graduate of the BGSU College of Musical Arts. He continues to be an active musician as both a keyboard and trumpet player. He and his wife, Mary, also a CMA graduate and a French horn player in the band, are long time members of the “Windjammers,” a nationally prominent group devoted to the preservation of circus music.

The band’s Assistant Conductor is Thomas Headley, who has been the Director of Bands at Bowling Green High School for 29 years. He also is an alumnus of the BGSU College of Musical Arts.

Overseeing the band’s operations is an elected Board of Directors headed by President Bruce Corrigan. Other officers are: Treasurer - Ellen Dalton; Secretary/Property - Jennifer Murphy; Property – Gary Keller; Publicity – Dick Edwards; and Members at Large – Courtney Boswell, Eric Boswell, and Norm Carpenter.

The Bowling Green Area Community Band is indebted to the North Coast Concert Band for its assistance with start-up.
